St. Louis County VINELink Coverage
Missouri runs its own VINE network under the name MOVANS, the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System. It tracks people, not paperwork. The St. Louis County Police Track Your Case page routes VINE inquiries for the county and keeps them confidential. State materials outline custody, court, and protective-order checks. You can also register for alerts on selected events.
VINELink answers one question: where is this person held right now? It will never show a booking photo. For photos and the arrest roster, the St. Louis County Inmate Locator covers active Justice Center custody plus releases in the past 72 hours. State prison, probation, and parole belong to the Missouri DOC offender search instead. Federal Bureau of Prisons inmates and immigration custody fall outside this county VINE path entirely. The county routing page places VINE beside the court system so both tracks stay visible.

The page pairs VINE as a status and alert resource with Case.net for court information.
Check a St. Louis County Inmate
Enter enough detail to separate people who share a name. A no-result does not mean no arrest or custody event occurred.
- Open the current Missouri MOVANS site or the VINELink entry point.
- Select Missouri and the relevant custody or court search.
- Enter the person's name or identification number when available.
- Compare every returned match using the displayed agency, facility, status, or identifier.
- Open the matching record and choose the event type for which notice is needed.
The general VINELink entry screen was captured during research.

The screen is a starting point. Missouri's current MOVANS notice governs local-jail registration choices.
When several records look alike, never rely on a name alone. Compare an ID first. Then weigh an age or birth detail. The facility and the agency behind the record matter too. For a very recent booking, try the county's Daily Arrest Report. You can also call Justice Services at 314-615-5245.
St. Louis County VINELink Fields
What you see depends on the agency and the record. Don't count on an old reference promising a booking photo. Treat these as common status fields, not a fixed county profile.
| Possible result | What it helps answer |
|---|---|
| Name or offender ID | Whether the result may match the intended person. |
| Custody status | Whether the participating system reports the person held or released. |
| Facility or agency | Which participating custodian supplied the status. |
| Transfer or release event | Whether the record reports movement or departure from custody. |
| Court event | A listed case update when separately registered for court notice. |
| Notification options | The delivery choices currently offered for that event. |
A VINE status can lag. Intake times and agency updates vary. It is no substitute for the official booking record. The final word on a case comes from the court, through dismissal, conviction, or acquittal. Track it on Case.net or with the proper municipal court.
Register for Missouri Custody Alerts
Missouri DPS announced a May 2026 system change that required local-jail users to re-register. Phone and VINELink app notifications no longer work. That includes the local jail. Pick SMS or email. Court and DOC notices by email or text continue under the current guidance.
- Find the correct person and confirm the participating facility.
- Select the custody event, court event, or both when both are needed.
- For local-jail notice, provide a current mobile number for SMS or an email address.
- Complete any confirmation step shown by MOVANS.
- Save the registration details and update them when contact information changes.
An older state brochure describes telephone registration with a four-digit PIN. It also says email registration skips the PIN. That PIN concept still explains some older or non-local workflows. For local-jail delivery, though, the DPS update supersedes it. Stuck mid-registration? Contact Missouri DPS at 573-526-1929 or movans@dps.mo.gov.
St. Louis County VINELink Limits
A local jail can drop offline from the notification system. Missouri's update says to try again later if no local-jail result appears. A missing record might also mean a citation, a release, a transfer, or a spelling issue. It could reflect a protected matter. Or custody may be held by another jurisdiction. MobilePatrol and Missouri Sheriff Connect are not affiliated with MOVANS, according to DPS.
Federal custody is out of scope. The Bureau of Prisons, ICE, and the U.S. Marshals Service are not covered. VINE is not a reliable booking-photo source either. Use the county locator for the public photo state and the live county roster. Use Missouri DOC for active state offenders, including prison, probation, and parole records.
Alerts help, but they are not guarantees. A device sits off, or an email gets filtered. Source data can also arrive late. Keep your registration details current and hold a separate safety plan. Never share a PIN or account access with someone who should not receive the information.
Missouri Alert Events Explained
The state brochure lists custody events: release, death, transfer, escape, and return to custody while on parole. Court alerts cover selected hearings or case events. Register separately for each stream, since one registration may not cover both.
A release alert means the source reported a custody change. It says nothing about why the person left, whether another agency took over, or what the court decided. A transfer alert signals movement, not freedom. Confirm the destination with the named custodian first.
Justice Services operates the St. Louis County jail. The Buzz Westfall Justice Center sits at 100 South Central Avenue, Clayton, MO 63105. Police report questions go to the arresting department. Court dates and outcomes belong to Case.net or the relevant court.
When MOVANS Finds No Record
A blank result is not the end of the road. First, retype the name carefully. Misspellings sink more searches than anything else. Check that Missouri is selected and the custody category fits the person you are looking for. Then switch to the St. Louis County locator and run both filters, Active Inmates and recent releases. The two systems do different jobs. The county locator shows who is in custody now plus releases inside its short public window, while MOVANS handles status alerts and notifications.
Still nothing? Call Justice Services about county custody. The arresting agency can tell you whether the person was booked at the county jail, cited and released, held in a city facility, or transferred elsewhere. Missouri DOC search is the right tool for anyone moved to state prison, probation, or parole. Federal or immigration custody requires the matching federal locator. Each system tracks one custodian. That is why merging them never works.
Registration also has limits worth knowing. Signing up for notifications does not create a custody record. It only attaches a delivery choice to an event MOVANS already tracks. Silence from the system proves nothing. Outages, lag, filtered email, a changed phone number, or a half-finished registration can all interrupt delivery. For a critical change, call the facility directly.
Court alerts cover separate ground. They flag listed hearings and case events, but a docket still needs to be read. An arraignment is an early appearance. Disposition is the final result. A person can walk out of custody while the case stays open, so keep those two streams apart.
Safety comes last but matters most. Register only contact points you control and keep secure. Never share your PIN. Anyone in immediate danger should call 911 instead of waiting on an automated message. MOVANS is a helpful notice layer. A direct call to the jail and a personal safety plan are still the best response to urgent risk.
